Sewer Committee Meeting Minutes - March 17, 2005

WASTE TREATMENT COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES
Thursday, March 17, 2005 at Sewer Department at 10 A.M.
Present: Allan Moir, Ron Taylor, Jim Fitch, Rip Emerson

March 21, 2005

1.      Allan and Ron stated that the plant license was for treating 700,000 gals/day and our average is only 300,000 per day.  We have treatment capacity for more expansion.  However, we may not have pump station capacity or line capacity depending on where the expansion might take place without modifying infrastructure.

2.      The electrical work has now been started on the new construction.  The quality of the masonry is very good and the buildings look very good.  The new roof is on the building now.  It is shingled rather than metal to prevent snow slide off injuries around the perimeter.

3.      Jim Fitch discussed the proposal for plant evaluation.  He was asked the range in years it might be good.  He answered that it depends upon the Town’s development growth and if it would be sewered or not.

4.      His proposal included the areas of greatest concern and totaled $53,295. The committee members had previously submitted various areas to be included.  Allan brought up that it would be more useful if it contained GPS overlays.  We all agreed.   Woodward and Curran’s Gary Volda has about ½ the GPS files for Kennebunkport and Allan has ½.  To use these in the proposal would cost about $6,000 to $10,000 extra.  We voted to submit the proposal with the extra $10,000 to cover the GPS information.

5.      Discussion was continued on where and how the plant would be increased for potential need.  This would depend on many things such as the future of Consolidated School and the nearby land that the Town might procure.  It was acknowledged that the Frink property contained about 80% wet lands that make it somewhat undesirable for expansion.

6.      The meeting adjourned with a site walk around the new construction.
