WASTE TREATMENT COMMITTEE MEETING
Feb. 19, 2004, at 10am, at Treatment Plant
Present: Bob Convery, Dick Johnson, Rip Emerson, Allan Moir,
1. On Feb. 18th the Planning Board gave their approval for the expansion plans. Before bidding, the D.E.P. has to give their approval. Bid requests are expected for late spring with a building start of late fall and winter.
2. When the Growth Planning Board meets to discuss an area for Town Growth behind the Clock Farm they have asked Allan to be there to give an overview of a sewer extension. There is no sewer or water available presently. The Committee will be at that meeting to support Allen in describing the huge cost of Sewer line extension and the problems that would prevail.
· It has all ledges.
· It would require a $500,000 pumping station since the sewer line by the bridge on Dyke Rd. is gravity one.
· It costs about $150 per foot for a sewer line.
· The bottom line is that it makes no sense to expand in that direction.
3. When the bridge is replaced on Dyke Rd. nothing needs to be done with that sewer line that iswell below the bottom of the culvert. When the bridge on the New Biddeford Rd. is replaced the Serer Dept. will lay a 6 to 8” pipe capped at both ends for any possible use for a pressure system in the future.
4. Electronic controls are replacing the analog units in the Smith stations installed in 1985. All units will be replaced as soon as possible. They give a more accurate reading of flow than previously recorded on charts. The plant is getting rid of mercury contained measuring instruments as fast as possible.
5. The present plant capacity is 700,000 gallons per day. In the summer it handles about 450,000 and in the winter it drops to under 200,000 gallons per day.
6. For capital equipment for the year the plant is planning to purchase a $29,000 camera for inspecting 4 to 24” lines. It will not be robotic but one requiring a push-pull manual handling.
7. The loader needs replacement and will go out for bid. If a Volvo can meet the cost requirement the department can use all the present buckets and fork.
8. Ken Campbell has agreed to join the committee and needs to be approved by the Selectmen.
