Kennebunkport Parks & Recreation CODE OF CONDUCT
This CODE OF CONDUCT has been written for all persons involved in a youth sports program of Kennebunkport. It cannot cover every possible circumstance, but it will serve as a guide of expected behavior and consequences. Safety is our primary concern, violence will not be tolerated. Extreme misconduct may result in exclusion from participation or in police action. Alcohol and other substances are never permitted. Complaints may be channeled through the recreation department at 967-4304.
I For Players…
Players must show respect for parents, teammates, opponents, game officials, staff, and the facility itself.
Players shall refrain from swearing or using obscene or vulgar language at any time, even if it is not directed at a particular person.
Fighting is prohibited.
Arguing with an official s decision is not allowed.
CONSEQUENCES: If a player breaks any of these rules, coaches shall (in addition to any penalty assessed by officials), (a) first time: sit out for a quarter, a half, or a game as circumstances may reasonably require; (b) second time: in addition to the above, report incidences to the Recreation Director for further action.
II For Coaches…
Respect all players, opponents, parents, game officials, and recreation personnel.
Play by the letter and spirit of the rules of the game.
Fair/equal play: all players must play as close as reasonably possible to one half of the game, and every player must sit on the bench for at least one quarter.
Never openly dispute or argue an official s decision.
Never use obscene or vulgar language to anyone, at anytime, anyplace.
CONSEQUENCES: Coaches will have to meet with the Recreation Director and/or Committee in the event of complaints. Extreme misconduct may require exclusion from participation.
For Parents and Spectators…
Encourage your child to play by the rules and as a team player.
Applaud good effort, whether in victory or defeat.
Never create a disturbance or interfere with the progress of the game.
Never swear or use obscene or vulgar language, even if not directed at a particular person.
Avoid all verbal abuse of players, coaches, and officials. Fighting is prohibited.
If you have a concern to discuss with the coach, contact the coach by telephone or set up an appointment to meet. If you cannot reach the coach, call the Recreation Director. Do not attempt to confront the coach before, during, or after a game or practice. These are emotional times for both parent and coach; this period does not promote objective analysis of the situation.
CONSEQUENCES: Should any spectator create a disturbance or interfere with the progress of the game, officials are required to stop the game. A warning may be issued, depending upon the seriousness of the disturbance. It is up to the coach of the team responsible for the person creating the disturbance to leave the bench and instruct the person to leave the building. If the person refuses to leave, the game will end, and the team responsible for the problem will forfeit the game. In any event, the game will continue only after the person leaves.
For Officials…
Act in a professional manner at all times.
Strive to provide a safe and sportsmanlike environment in which players can properly display their sports skills. The game is under your control.
Adopt a zero tolerance attitude toward verbal or physical abuse, and never use foul language when speaking with a coach, player, spectator, or other official.
Be fair and impartial at all times.
Violence must never be tolerated.
Never openly criticize a coach, player, spectator, or other official.
CONSEQUENCES: Complaints about officials behavior (not judgment) must be made in writing to the Recreation Director.
All signatures indicate an understanding of and adherence to the above CODE OF CONDUCT.
